Anchors aweigh- your perfect introduction to sailing. In this challenge, you'll learn about the different sailing knots, their function and purpose. You'll learn to tie your own knots and then share your learning with others.

Did you know more people have been to the moon than sailed around the world non-stop alone? Sailing is one of the world's most technically challenging and complex sports.  It harnesses the natural physics of the wind, gravity and hydrodynamics.  Once hooked, sailing can be a major passion throughout one's life.  In this challenge, children will work with Rachel Pryce an accomplished sailor and crew member of professional racing yachts.  They will be introduced to the concept of sailing include the basics of the sails, keel and rudder.  Children will then focus on the most important part of any sailing crew... the handling of lines (ropes) and tying knots.  Knot tying is one of the most important skills to have in everyday life - not to mention on a sailing yacht - so the child will work closely with the TSR professional sailor to learn a flurry of knots, their uses and how to efficiently put their skills to use on a boat.  Finally, children will show off their knot tying skills in an exhibition shared on the TSR website and social media.
